Urinary Tract Infections

This week’s case presentation addressed Urinary Tract Infections, one of the most frequent problems in clinical practice. The discussion covered definitions, classification (uncomplicated, complicated, recurrent, catheter-associated), epidemiology, and common pathogens such as Escherichia coli. Clinical signs, diagnostic algorithms (urinalysis, urine culture, imaging), treatment approaches, and prevention strategies were highlighted with practical clinical tips.

Students learned the importance of early diagnosis with dipstick and nitrite tests, how to distinguish cystitis from pyelonephritis, and key prevention strategies such as hydration, postcoital voiding, and proper hygiene, reinforced through interactive clinical discussions.
