Suturing – 2024
Basic Suturing Workshop (Summer 2024) — Build Surgical Confidence, One Stitch at a Time
Overview
The White Coat Academy Basic Suturing Workshop is designed for medical students and early trainees who want to translate theory into real, repeatable hand skills. This session focuses on safe tissue handling, instrument control, and step-by-step technique so you can approach minor wound closure with confidence during clerkships and emergency settings.
Why White Coat Academy?
We don’t just “show” suturing — we coach it. You practice under close supervision, receive immediate correction, and leave with a clear mental model of when and how each stitch is used in clinical practice.
What You’ll Learn
• Sterile mindset: basic field principles, needle safety, and ergonomic positioning
• Instruments & materials: needle types, suture selection, and knot security
• Core techniques: simple interrupted, running, vertical/horizontal mattress, corner stitch basics
• Wound strategy: tension management, edge eversion, and cosmetic considerations
• Common pitfalls: gaping, strangulation, “cheese-wiring,” and how to fix them
Hands-On Format
Participants rotate through guided skill stations using practice pads and structured checklists. Instructors demonstrate each technique, then supervise your repetitions until your movements become smooth and consistent. Micro-feedback is given in real time so errors are corrected before they become habits.
Interactive Learning & Kahoot Challenges
Throughout the workshop, short Kahoot quizzes reinforce key principles and decision-making. Friendly competition keeps the energy high while helping you retain critical details.
Certification & Awards
All participants receive a digital certificate of completion. Kahoot top-performers and outstanding skills-station participants are recognized with small gifts and special shout-outs during the closing session.
